The Mixed Media unit of work consists of five art lessons that may be run over six to ten weeks. The unit explores Mixed Media with the use of digital technologies. The Visual Art unit also incorporates ICT's, HPE and may include English. Homework and research at home would be encouraged to further develop students' skills.
Visual Art techniques, appreciation and appraisal are a lifelong process. This unit of work is merely a small portion of development in these areas and may encourage students to allow time in their busy lives to focus on creativity in any of the Visual Art mediums.
o Students will complete a number of tasks to become more proficient at creating a Mixed Media piece of artwork using recycled or repurposed products, acrylics, stenciling and digital tools. Students will receive ongoing feedback to assist their highest outcomes.
o The students will also learn simple techniques to carry out each task to the best of their ability.
o Students will acquire knowledge of art terminology and be encouraged to research and add to the Art Glossary.
o As students discover artists they may be influenced by, they will also develop some skill in writing art appraisals and will create their own artist statement.
o Students gain knowledge and understanding by creating ongoing reflective diary of researching, discovering and applying their knowledge to create personalised artworks that may foster a positive belief in themselves.
o Finally students will create an exhibition using their choice of their own artwork displayed with an artist statement. The artist statement will be recorded using an iPad to allow students the opportunity to become more familiar with public speaking in a safer environment. The recordings will be played on the exhibition day.
o Students will be assessed on their art: technique, research, composition, reflective online diary, appraisal and statement.
o The assessment will also include their art choice for exhibition, the recorded artist appraisal, their art folio with notes, examples and research.
o The exhibition will be open to the school and families of the artists on a pre-arranged day. The exhibition will conclude at 5.00pm to allow working parents and carers access to the display.
o Students will receive ongoing verbal and written feedback and criteria sheets with grades from
A - E for tasks.
