Essential Learnings & ACARA
The Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting framework has been instrumental in the
creation of this unit of work. In particular Visual Art in 'The Arts'. The Essential Learnings framework outlines expected outcomes by the end of year 7 (QSA, 2012)
In the Visual Art unit, students will further develop their skills in
knowledge and understanding,
investigating,
planning,
implementing and applying and
reflecting (QSA, 2012).
o Students gain knowledge and understanding by researching, discovering and applying their knowledge to create personalised artworks that may foster a positive belief in themselves.
o They will further develop their understanding of visual art elements and language.
o Students will present and respond to their own and others art works.
o Finally, they will reflect on their own art development with an ongoing visual art diary presented using digital technologies (QSA, 2012).
The unit may cross over other curriculum areas that may assist the students' development.
Year 7 Health and Physical Education (HPE) elaborates on personal development. Students can identify, explore and respond to self image using visual art as a communicator (QSA, 2012).
The unit of work may also be linked to Year 7 English curriculum as outlined in the Australian Curriculum v.4 when writing and presenting artist statement, reflections, appraisals and diary entries (ACARA, 2012).
